- Dr. Heinrich Rohrer passed away May 16, 2013.
Dr. Heinrich Rohrer, co-inventor of the scanning tunneling microscope (STM) and co-recipient of the 1986 Nobel prize in physics, has passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2013. Over the past decades, STM and related scanning probe techniques have spread far beyond physics throughout science and technology, opening the doors for nanoscience and nanotechnology. NZZ obituary
