  1. Dr. Heinrich Rohrer passed away May 16, 2013.
    Dr. Heinrich Rohrer, co-inventor of the scanning tunneling microscope (STM) and co-recipient of the 1986 Nobel prize in physics, has passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2013. Over the past decades, STM and related scanning probe techniques have spread far beyond physics throughout science and technology, opening the doors for nanoscience and nanotechnology. NZZ obituary

  4. Stern-Gerlach-Medaille für Prof. Dieter Pohl
    Prof. Dieter Pohl, emeritierter Professor am Departement Physik der Universität Basel, erhält die Stern-Gerlach-Medaille 2013 für seine Pionierarbeiten zur Entwicklung der optischen Nahfeldmikroskopie. Die Stern-Gerlach-Medaille ist die höchste Auszeichnung, die die Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft für experimentelle Physik vergibt.

  11. Saturday Morning Physics 2013
    An zwei Samstagmorgen (26.1. / 2.2) werden Themen aus der Physik anschaulich vorgestellt (flyer). Die "Saturday Morning Physics" richtet sich an Schülerinnen und Schüler von Gymnasien (ab 14 Jahren), und ist offen für alle. Die Veranstaltung beginnt um 10 Uhr mit einem Vortrag, gefolgt von Demonstrationen und Labortours. Es wird ein Wettbewerb veranstaltet. Zu gewinnen gibt es T-shirts. Erster Preis: iPad.
